Neon Blood takes place in 2053, when the economy is thriving in Bright City but Blind City is in ruins. After inequality has ramped up, former detective Axel McCoin investigates the corrupt structures that ground the settlement. The protagonist must also confront the powerful forces that maintain this delicate balance, and enmeshed within this conflict are external foes, however, the hidden and webbed strands of Virdis will reveal those hiding in plain sight, ready to become enemies.

You will control a character named Axel and you will wander the secretive town of Viridis. You get to explore a wide range of places from the bright skies of bright City full of light to the dark subway tunnels. As Axel starts digging, he uncovers a whole lot of corruption with a lot of players, some who assist him, some who work against him.

Tactical gameplay is infused throughout the title, as the main character battles foes in turn-based combat utilizing skills, items and patiently timed strikes. You will experience the story through the multitude of personalities that Axel encounters. Characters like Basilio, a hacker who can bring down whole systems, or Varya, who scavenges in the Blind City junkyards, keep things interesting for Axel as she travels. ​
